In the Community
Supporting our local communities is one of our key business values. Fundraising and raising awareness for charities that are local to both our office and our customers across the UK is one of the ways in which we seek to get involved and help to make a difference.
We’re involved in lots of great causes and you can find out a little more about each of them below.
St Richard’s Hospice
A team of keen cyclists take to the roads and lanes around Worcestershire each July in a bid to raise funds for hospice care. The event offers cyclists three different routes; it will start and finish at the hospice in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, with cyclists heading into the beautiful south Worcestershire countryside, mainly on quiet country lanes or bike routes.
Participants choose from the family route of 16 miles, a more challenging 45 miles or the 64-mile route to Snowshill in the Cotswolds, for the seasoned cyclist.
As the main sponsor for the event in July 2017, Midland Communications got involved and went one step further by entering a team of 21 cyclists, helping to ensure that St Richard’s continues to do its excellent work for many years to come.
Midland Comms – proud main sponsors in 2017, 2018 and 2019!
Red Nose Day
We’re really proud that our base in Tewkesbury was selected to be an official call centre for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day 2017.
To be chosen as an official Red Nose Day Call Centre was a real honour for us. As you can imagine, Comic Relief have a stringent selection process and, with Call Centre expertise sitting at the heart of our customer proposition, we felt it was really important that we were successful in our bid. The night itself went fantastically well. Not only did we accept a huge amount of money during the evening, the whole point of the exercise, but we also hit our company target of 100% “no calls dropped”; something of which we are very proud.
Not only did we hit our target, but we also thought it was essential that we did something special to raise funds on the day and so we held a 24-hour “Midland PingPongA-Thon” which raised over £2000 for Comic Relief.
Motor Neurone Disease Association
Midland Comms entered two teams and are sponsoring the Pain in the ALS Charity Golf Day. Supporting Motor Neurone Disease Association to raise much needed awareness and funds to help find a cure or at least a way to slow Motor Neurone Disease down.
Tewkesbury School Sponsor a Student
We like to award talent and therefore donate and award prizes at the end of term Praise and Rewards Assemblies to the three ‘most improved’ students in English.
Bob Champion Cancer Trust
After Bob Champion and Aldaniti won the 1981 Grand National, the interest and enthusiasm generated by ‘racing’s greatest fairytale’ led to the foundation in 1983 of The Bob Champion Cancer Trust. Five years later, nearly to the day of the victory, the Bob Champion Cancer Research Unit was opened within the Royal Marsden NHS Trust Hospital in Sutton, Surrey.
Midland Comms support The Bob Champion Research Centre for Urological Cancer which forms part of the first male dedicated cancer research centre in the UK and helps bring together research expertise into prostate, testicular and bladder cancer.
A leading children’s charity in Gloucestershire, their mission is to make a difference to the lives of sick and disabled children in the county. They do this by funding medical and practical equipment that enhances care and treatment for children in hospital and in the special schools in Gloucestershire. They also send children with life limiting illnesses and their families on Wish Holidays, support the ever-growing mental health care in Gloucestershire and fund £10,000 worth of nursing training for the paediatric nurses in the County to ensure that the children get the most up to date care possible.
We like to get involved in their Children’s Motor Show and Bikeathon.
Flood and Mudslide Devastation in Sierra Leone
Midland Comms sponsored one of our long-standing customers to go out to Sierra Leone for ten days to help to provide relief following the devastating flood and mudslide.
One Manchester Raffle prizes
Midland Comms supported One Manchester’s Annual staff conference by contributing towards the raffle prizes.
Hanley Castle High Sixth Form Block Sponsorship
We were delighted to get involved with the Hanley Castle High School in their fundraising Grand Ball to help raise money for the school’s new Sixth Form centre.
The evening raised more than £10,500, which will now be used to equip the new Sixth Form centre and landscape its exterior.
